Nest, Rest and Gaze – Upper Level
The staircase to the upper floor is an architectural work of wonder. Fabricated from powder-coated steel, the staircase appears to float but is actually anchored securely to white laminated two-by-four planks that extend from floor to ceiling creating a stunning, open-work feature wall on the main floor. Each plank is evenly spaced allowing natural light from the upstairs’ skylights to filter through. The cool steel frame contrasts with warm bamboo wood on the treads. The lustrous, bamboo handrail, crafted with an intricate inlay pattern, is a luxurious yet understated design detail.
At the top of the light-drenched staircase is a cleverly designed compact library alcove that leads through to the tranquil master suite. Architect-designed built-in bed and night tables complement the overall modernist design vision. The view of the lush south-facing back garden is visible from both the bed and the room’s partly covered, private balcony. The bed’s headboard wall is open on either side of the bed leading back to his and hers walk-in closets respectively and a spa-like bathroom beyond. The separate steam shower and Japanese soaker tub encourage relaxation while the bidet and toilet room offers complete privacy. The minimalist approach is carried through in this space with the frosted-glass sliding doors and calming, muted hues.
Heading back to the landing, the skylights from the soaring ceiling douse the stairway and the hallway with light. Running along the stairwell down the hallway are capacious integrated storage cabinets. Two high-ceilinged bedrooms just off the hallway both boast ensuite bathrooms. The third bedroom at the front of the house, with its own ensuite and balcony with gorgeous views, is spacious, airy and private.
At the end of the hallway, at the front of the house, a common space opens up, to the right. Roomy enough to be an office or homework zone, with windows on two sides, natural light is in abundance as are the spectacular city and mountain views. There is an added bonus of access to another secluded terrace. For ease of family life, a full laundry room is situated in the back corner of the upstairs floor.
